Strike on hold at Timmins Airport

TIMMINS – The City of Timmins and the union representing workers at the Timmins Airport have resumed negotiations; a strike which was set to start on Monday, March 4 at 6 p.m. is temporarily on hold.

The 19 airport workers affected include maintenance and airfield technicians, mechanics, electricians and some administrative personnel. They are represented by the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees, a union within the Public Service Alliance of Canada.

“Throughout this process, all we’ve wanted was to get back to the bargaining table,” said Martin Mika, UCTE regional vice-president for Ontario. “Since we’re finally making some progress, we want to keep the conversation going until we reach a deal.”

“While negotiations continue, travelers can rest assured that the airport will remain fully operational.”

The parties expect to meet again in the coming days.
