The NAV CANADA bargaining team exchanged proposals at their first meeting with the employer February 22-24. Our bargaining team received a strong mandate from members to address key priorities at the table, including fair wages, remote work and better work-life balance.

The team is committed to negotiating a fair and reasonable collective agreement that will improve working conditions for members and reject any concessions from the employer.

Key issues the bargaining team will focus on:

• Fair wages: Wage increases for all members are crucial. With the cost of living rising quickly across Canada, workers can’t risk being left behind.
• Remote work: A fair system for telework and ensuring that members have the work-life balance that they need.
• Job security: We will push to protect all members from any further layoffs.
• Work-life balance: We need work options and improvements to leave policies that allow members to better address their personal and family responsibilities.

While the negotiation team of PSAC-UCTE hasn’t begun wage discussions with the employer, we can see there are a number of issues where they will want to weaken our agreement. The employer spent a lot of time talking about how times are tough, but they will not balance their books on our backs. We plan to push hard to get fair increases for all. The employer has also signaled that they want to make further changes to our pension plan, but we are committed to fighting any proposals that aim to weaken workers’ pensions.
