In memoriam – Elmer Turcios

It is with great sadness that we share the news that, after 9 weeks in the intensive care unit, Brother Elmer Turcios has passed away at the age of 52 as a result of COVID-19.

Elmer and his brother came as refugees to Canada, escaping the death squads of the 1980s in El Salvador. He was a strong union activist for more than 25 years, most notably helping to organize the fuellers and supervisors at Globe Ground who work at Vancouver Airport. Within his local, Elmer was the chief shop steward and actively took part in education opportunities or conferences, including attending the 2017 UCTE Convention.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Elmer’s family and friends as they go through this difficult time.
