On July 14 members of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) at the Saint John Port Authority voted in favour of their new agreement with the employer.

Chris Bussey, Regional Vice President of UCTE in the Atlantic worked closely with this local through the bargaining process.

“UCTE/PSAC members are pleased to have reached an agreement with the employer,” said Bussey. “We believe that this is a step by Port Saint John to recognize the important work that our members do every day that contributes to the overall economy of the community.”

With rising inflation, on top of current gas and utility prices, these workers are pleased to close the wage gap they’ve been experiencing in comparison to  other employers in the Saint John, N.B.

The four-year agreement not only includes substantial wage increases but also increases in allowances, better overtime hours and new language on anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-workplace violence.

We are pleased to announce that management and the PSAC/UTCE at Port Saint John have reached a four-year agreement,” said Craig Bell Estabrooks, President and CEO, Port Saint John. “Both parties are very positive about the outcome and we look forward to working with our unionized employees over the next several years as Port Saint John continues to grow and modernize.”

The union would like to thank the bargaining team members, Rod Knox, Nick Lambert and Allan Monahan and most of all the members who gave their full and unwavering support to their bargaining team.
