A historic moment: the first female bosun of the Great Lakes fleet.

UCTE member Katie Courchesne – the Canadian Coast Guard’s (CCG)  has become the first female bosun on the Great Lakes fleet. In an article featured in the Sarnia Journal, Ms Courchesne told reporter Tara Jeffrey that she has always enjoyed being on the water. Her summer jobs driving a ferry led her to a career in the CCG at the age of 18.

She noted that when she first joined in 2011 the ratio of men to women was 20 to 2.  “It’s a lot better now.” Ms Courchesne told the reporter. UCTE congratulates Katie on her historic accomplishment.
