2021 Canadian Firefighters Memorial Ceremony cancelled – Small Memorial Closed to the Public

As usual, UCTE takes part in the annual memorial ceremony held in honour of fallen firefighters. The 2021 Memorial Ceremony has been cancelled. A small memorial will take place on Sunday, September 12 at 10:30 a.m. but is closed to the public due to COVID-19.

The Honorary Host for the 2021 Canadian Firefighters Memorial Ceremony is the Calgary Fire Department which has graciously agreed to postpone their service until the 2022 ceremony.

“In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, frontline workers, families, and communities confront unprecedented risks,” said David Sheen, President of the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

“Families are faced with direct risks associated with frontline work while balancing employment and financial changes, home schooling, and vulnerability to COVID-19. The Board of Directors felt it was our duty to protect the health and safety of our families and colleagues while upholding our mission to remember, honour, and support our fallen.”

Firefighters’ National Memorial Day recognizes firefighters around Canada for their sacrifice, dedication, and bravery.
