In a victory for our ship’s crew members at the Canadian Coast Guard, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has lifted their stop-the-clock practice that affects term employees as of February 1, 2025.
Normally, term employees are supposed to become indeterminate after three years of service. The stop-the-clock order suspended that, leaving many of our members in precarious term employment for much longer than should be the case.
UCTE has been consistently applying pressure at Union-Management Committee meetings with the DFO and with the Commissioner for the Coast Guard. They have finally listened.
More of our members, who provide a life-saving public service, will now gain the stability and security they deserve.
